Dear Parents,

     Our first two days were great. We're all getting to know each other and are ready to get learning! This week we will be beginning our first full week of instruction. The subjects and their focuses are listed below, this way, you will always know what we're up to in class.

     In Reading this week, we will be starting Unit 1 Week 1. Our focus will be on the following:

* Comprehension Strategy: Visualize

* Comprehension Skill: Key Details

* Vocabulary Strategy: Inflectional Endings

* Grammar: Statements and Questions

* Mechanics: Capitalization and Punctuation

* Story Genre: Fantasy

* Anchor Stories: "Little Flap Learns to Fly", "Help! A Story of Friendship".

     In Math, we will be starting Chapter 2 where we will focus on grouping tens as hundreds, writing a 3-digit number for a group of tens, modeling 3-digit numbers, and the values of digits in numbers.  We will also be working on recognition of basic addition facts. Please remember to practice basic addition facts with your child. The students will be tested weekly on a mixed selection of addition facts and this 2-minute timed test will consist of 20 addition problems.  If your child needs some additional practice you can also try www.mathfactcafe.com and www.themathworksheetsite.com.  This 1st nine weeks the facts will focus on addition and the 2nd nine weeks we will switch to subtraction.

      In Social Studies, we will be diving into Unit 1, "My Community, My Country".   We will be learning about rules and responsibilities including what it means to be a good citizen, our rights as citizens, and why laws are important for our community.What is the world like?

Agendas:

Agendas will be coming home nightly. Please check and sign agendas everyday. This is where the students will be placing their behavior numbers daily.

Lunch:

Lunch is at 11:26 daily. We have chosen as a class to have snack around 9:05 everyday. Please make snacks something that is easy to eat as it is a working snack and we will not stop our instruction when it takes place.

Homework:

* On Friday, the students voted on what they would like to have for homework. The choices were Language Arts, Math, Language Arts and Math or none. Ten of the sixteen votes were for none and so we will not have any homework for the first nine weeks. However, the students should be reading for AR at their leisure as time allows.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Have a Beautiful Day!

       Love,

      -Ms. Cruz
